Empik Marketplace (EmpikPlace) is the marketplace integrated into Empik.com, one of Poland’s leading e-commerce and omnichannel platforms. It enables third-party sellers – including businesses established in other European Union Member States – to sell their products to Polish consumers through the Empik.com website and app.
In 2026, Empik.com’s overall assortment includes more than 20 million products and the platform has over 30,000 registered sellers. Empik also reports a customer base of more than 12 million customers. For an Italian company, it therefore primarily represents a direct route into the Polish e-commerce market.
Key Features and Services
Empik Marketplace is a multi-category marketplace that combines offers from third-party sellers with products sold directly by Empik. Sellers manage their business activity, offers, stock, prices, orders and performance through the Seller Management Center.
The platform also supports integration with several e-commerce systems and management tools, including Base.com, PrestaShop, Shopify, Shoppingfeed and other integrators, as well as APIs for automating catalogue management, pricing, availability and orders. Sellers can also access tools designed to support promotion and sales growth, such as Empik Ads, Empik Premium, seasonal commercial campaigns and seller subscription plans.
Revenue
Empik does not publish a specific revenue figure for the Marketplace alone. It is therefore more accurate not to attribute an unverified revenue figure to the marketplace.
As an indicator of the channel’s scale, Empik reported that in 2025 the Marketplace exceeded PLN 1 billion in GMV, representing growth of approximately 40% year on year, making it the Group’s fastest-growing channel. In the same year, Empik Group’s overall GMV reached nearly PLN 4.9 billion, up 16% compared with 2024, while EBITDA amounted to PLN 335 million. GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) represents the total value of sales generated through the platform and should not be confused with company revenue.
Permitted Products
Empik Marketplace offers a very broad assortment across more than 20 categories. Key categories include books, toys and games, electronics, gaming, home appliances, home and garden, sports, school and stationery products, health and beauty, as well as numerous other lifestyle products.
However, the seller regulations effective from 21 August 2026 include a detailed list of products excluded from sale. These include, among others, alcoholic beverages, weapons and ammunition, explosives and fireworks, prescription medicines, tobacco and e-cigarettes, counterfeit goods, fresh and frozen food, pornographic or erotic products, and hazardous chemicals. Specific restrictions also apply to certain products and materials of animal origin. Before preparing a catalogue for Empik, sellers should therefore check the relevant category and individual product against the latest marketplace rules.
Accessibility for Italian Companies
Empik Marketplace is directly accessible to Italian companies. Establishing a company in Poland is not required. To register, the business must:
- be active;
- be registered in a European Union Member State;
- have been established for at least one month;
- ship products from an EU country;
- have an adult legal representative.
The registration process can also be completed in English, and the application is reviewed by Empik; the platform normally indicates a verification time of around one business day.
Once approved, the company must set up a dedicated account with the payment provider Przelewy24 (P24), even if it already has an existing P24 account. Empik explicitly provides an onboarding procedure for companies registered outside Poland.
A particularly important requirement for Italian companies concerns language: all product and offer information must be provided in Polish. Empik also reviews product pages and may reject incomplete or non-compliant content. To operate effectively on the marketplace, companies should therefore prepare titles, attributes, descriptions and catalogue content specifically localised for the Polish market rather than simply reusing their Italian catalogue.
Countries and Markets
The Marketplace’s commercial market is Poland. The standard seller shipping configuration therefore identifies Poland as the delivery area.
Empik also provides international shipping for some products sold directly by the company, but the 2026 regulations clearly specify that orders placed with Empik Marketplace sellers are not delivered outside Poland. As a result, for an Italian company Empik should be considered primarily as a sales channel for reaching consumers based in Poland, rather than as a pan-European marketplace.
Costs and Commissions
Opening and operating a Marketplace account is possible under the STANDARD plan, which is free of charge (PLN 0). In 2026, Empik also offers two optional plans:
PLUS: PLN 99 net every 30 days
MAX: PLN 499 net every 30 days.
The higher-tier plans provide additional benefits, including greater store visibility, analytics tools, priority support and, under the Max plan, technical audits and additional commercial tools.
Sellers are also charged a base sales commission, whose percentage varies by product category. Empik publishes the latest commission schedule in the Seller Management Center. In addition, a platform fee of 0.45% of the gross order value applies, including both product price and delivery charges; it is charged only when a sale is generated.
From 2026, Empik also applies a Preferred Placement Commission when a product is purchased from the offer ranked first on the product page. Compared with the base commission, this additional fee is equal to 0.25× under the Standard plan, 0.15× under Plus and 0.10× under Max. For example, if the base commission is 10%, the additional fee would be 2.5%, 1.5% or 1% respectively.
Empik also periodically offers incentives for new sellers, including 0% commission for up to three months and the possibility of testing the Plus plan free of charge for 30 days. These are promotional conditions and should be checked at the time of registration.
Payment Systems
For purchases made through the Marketplace, Empik confirms the availability of payment methods including bank transfer/online payment, payment cards, BLIK, Empik gift cards and funds available in the customer account; cash on delivery may also be available in certain cases. Actual availability depends on the seller, product and selected delivery method. The wider Empik platform also supports other solutions such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPo, although not every method is necessarily available for all Marketplace orders.
To receive sales proceeds, sellers must use a dedicated Przelewy24 account. Standard transfers from Empik to P24 are normally made twice a month, on the 15th and on the last day of the month; sellers with strong performance may qualify for more frequent settlement cycles.
A Polish bank account is not mandatory. However, for foreign bank accounts, Empik states that the payment provider applies a fee of EUR 8 per transfer. Italian companies should therefore take this cost into account when assessing the channel’s operating expenses.
Advertising
Empik operates its own retail media platform, Empik Ads, which is directly accessible to sellers. The main solutions include Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands.
Sponsored Products campaigns are generally billed on a CPC (cost-per-click) basis, while Sponsored Brands use a CPM model. Sellers can set a daily or total budget and monitor impressions, clicks, sales and ROAS directly from the advertising dashboard.
A particularly relevant feature for Italian companies is the possibility of extending product campaigns to the Google network, allowing offers to appear in Google Search results and Google Shopping. A separate Google Ads account is not required: activation and monitoring are managed through the Empik Ads dashboard, using the product data published on Empik.com.
Empik also organises free seasonal promotional campaigns, for example around Black Week, Christmas and Back to School, which eligible sellers can join to increase product visibility.
Logistics Services
Empik does not provide sellers with a standard fulfilment service comparable, for example, to Fulfilment by Amazon. Responsibility for preparing and shipping orders remains with the seller. For an Italian company, this means products may be shipped directly from Italy, provided that dispatch takes place from a European Union Member State.
The platform allows sellers to configure several delivery methods for the Polish market, including courier delivery, InPost Parcel Lockers, DPD Pickup, ORLEN Paczka, Poczta Polska collection points and delivery to Empik stores, depending on the seller’s configuration and applicable eligibility requirements.
Delivery to Empik stores is a distinctive feature of the marketplace, but it is not automatically available to all sellers. It is reserved for Super Sellers or sellers meeting specific quality standards, including minimum ratings, order acceptance rates and on-time shipping performance. Empik operates a network of nearly 400 stores that can be used as collection points.
Through Empik Premium, eligible sellers may also benefit from Empik co-financing free-delivery costs and from increased visibility for their offers.
Customer and Seller Support
Empik provides sellers with a dedicated Help Center, the Seller Management Center and a Marketplace support service. Support can be contacted through the dedicated portal and, according to figures published by Empik, resolves around 60% of requests at first response, with a stated CSAT score of 92%.
The level of support also depends on the subscription plan: Empik indicates an average first-response time of approximately 4 hours for the Standard plan and around 1.5 hours for Plus and Max, which benefit from priority support.
For Marketplace purchases, the seller remains responsible to the customer for the product sold, including the management of enquiries, returns and complaints. Consumers can contact the seller directly through Empik’s messaging tools.
Empik also systematically monitors seller quality through indicators such as customer ratings, incident rate, return rate, order acceptance rate, acceptance time, on-time shipping and response time to customer messages. Strong performance can improve visibility, enable more frequent settlements and provide access to Super Seller status and other promotional programmes; insufficient performance may instead result in restrictions or account suspension.
